Former ECPA Executive to Lead Fast-Growing Division of Bowker; New Staff Confirmed for Other Bowker/ECPA Joint Venture
New Providence, N.J. - May 2, 2006 - Kelly Gallagher, a veteran of the publishing industry and most recently Vice President of Business Development at the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA), has been named general manager of the business intelligence segment at Bowker, the global leader in bibliographic information management.
According to Gary Aiello, chief operating officer of Bowker, Gallagher will be charged with leading and coordinating all activities in this emerging business unit at the company. Bowker provides a growing range of business intelligence products to the publishing industry, including the Books In Print IntelliMarket system and PubTrack sales data warehouse system.
“Our business intelligence segment has quickly developed to the point that we need an experienced publishing executive to head up the business and to enlist the support of our customers in the constant improvement of our product and service offerings,” said Aiello. “Kelly is an accomplished professional in the industry and we are delighted that he has agreed to join our team at Bowker as we strive to enhance our existing business intelligence products and explore other new market opportunities.”
Gallagher served as the vice president of business development at ECPA for the past six years. In this role, he managed the development and implementation of publishing industry initiatives including research and technology, publisher training and supply chain management. He has worked closely with a number of industry partners, such as the Book Industry Study Group.
“Although we will miss the day-to-day working relationship with Kelly, we see his new position at Bowker as synergetic and beneficial,” says ECPA President Mark Kuyper. “Kelly will continue to work closely with ECPA and our members in his new responsibilities at Bowker.”
Prior to joining ECPA, Gallagher worked for 10 years at Beacon Hill Press, including four years as the publisher. He earned his bachelor of science degree from Northern Arizona University.
“Bowker has an established reputation as the leading source for objective market information in the publishing industry, so I am very excited about coming on board to lead the important business intelligence segment of the company,” said Gallagher. “I look forward to working with our talented employees, loyal strategic partners and valued customers in order to deliver an even broader and deeper range of products to help publishers make well-informed business decisions.”
In related news, ECPA and Bowker announced specific management staff for its joint trade publication, BookWire Publishing News & Reviews. Two industry veterans, Marcia Ford and Angela Kiesling, will be sharing managing editor duties for this full-color quarterly print publication. Marcia Ford offers a wealth of publishing experience as an editor, manager, and writer. Her strengths include book doctoring, news reporting, and feature writing, as well as all aspects of editing. A former daily newspaper reporter and managing editor for Christian Retailing, Ford has more than 30 years experience in writing and editing. She is also the author of four books, including the critically acclaimed Memoir of a Misfit (Jossey-Bass).
Marcia Ford will be partnering with another industry veteran, Angie Kiesling. Angie has authored, co-authored, or ghostwritten ten books including Jaded (Baker), Live Like a Jesus Freak (Albury), and Soul Deep: Prayers & Promises for Cultivating Inner Beauty (Barbour). She has held editorial titles with some of Christian publishing’s most dynamic institutions, including Charisma, Christian Retailing, Creation House, and iBelieve.com. She currently serves as editorial director of Xulon Press, a print-on-demand publisher serving the Christian market, as well as fiction judge for the ECPA Christian Book Awards and The Christy Awards.
BookWire Christian Publishing News & Reviews was announced by ECPA and Bowker last month and will debut its first issue in September 2006. The full-color, oversized publication will be circulated free of charge to more than 12,000 book professionals, including librarians and book buyers.
“Having this type of industry expertise for a new trade publication is remarkable,” says ECPA’s Kuyper. Adds Bowker COO Aiello: “Marcia and Angie bring a depth of channel knowledge, publishing expertise and journalistic integrity to BookWire. Their leadership will only increase the value of this new review publication to all.”
