Bowker and AAP Will Host Webinar on Consumer Book Trends

"Consumer Book Trends 2009" Will Highlight Changing Climate of Book Buying in 2009

New York, NY - December 10, 2009 - The changing climate of book buying and shifting patterns of book consumer behavior will be the subject of a new hour-long webinar for industry professionals, a first-of-its-kind sneak peek into consumer book buying trends for the first three quarters of 2009. Set for Wednesday, December 16, from 2:00 p.m – 3:00 pm ET, the webinar will be co-hosted by Bowker and the Association of American Publishers (AAP).

Highlights of the webinar will include detailed channel analysis, including a breakdown of the book buyer demographics within top outlets, cross-selling at these outlets, as well as highlights on purchase behaviors and shopping visit behavior of different customer segments. Attendees will be able to follow the audio presentation and ask questions in real time. Bowker’s Kelly Gallagher, Vice President, Publisher Services, will do the presentation, with the virtual audience Q&A facilitated by AAP Vice President Tina Jordan.

Publishers, booksellers, and other industry professionals will be able to gain an understanding of consumer book buying behavior through Bowker’s PubTrack™ Consumer, one of the industry’s leading sources for intelligence on consumer book buying behavior. Moving beyond basic book sales data, the webinar will offer insight into the reasons people buy books and the motivation for their purchases.

“Knowledge and understanding of the purchasing patterns of the consumer is critical for all members of the industry supply chain,” said Tina Jordan “We hope the ongoing series of programs highlighting consumer-driven data produced by Bowker’s PubTrack™ Consumer will further acquisition, sales and marketing strategies based on end-user demographics and buying behaviors.”

The December 16 event is the second in a planned series of webinars the two organizations will host in the coming months. The Big Picture on U.S. Consumer Book Buying was held October 22 and focused on the key questions of who today’s book consumers are, where they are shopping, and how successful we are at reaching them.

To register for the December 16th webinar ($49 per individual participant; $99 multiple participants using one login at a company) please visit www.bookconsumer.com or email PubTrackInfo@bowker.com. Press should contact Judy Platt at jplatt@publishers.org for registration.
