International Standard Book Number (ISBN)
The most important identifier your book can have is the ISBN. As the U.S. ISBN Agency, Bowker is the ONLY official source of ISBNs in the United States. ISBNs provide unique identification for books and simplify the distribution of your books throughout the global supply chain. Without an ISBN, you will not be found in bookstores, either online, or down the street from your house.
Bookland EAN Barcode
A Bookland EAN Barcode encodes an ISBN number and price. When scanned at a store at the time of purchase, the barcode enables stores to maintain inventory and track sales. Every major bookseller requires a barcode for every physical book.

ISNI (The International Standard Name Identifier)
The ISNI is an ISO-certified global standard for the identification of contributors to creative works. The ISNI system uniquely identifies public identities across multiple fields of creative activity that might otherwise be confused. An ISNI can be assigned to all parties that create, produce, manage, distribute or feature in creative content — including human beings, legal entities (such as a company), or fictional characters.
SAN (Standard Address Number)
The SAN is a unique seven-digit identifier used to signify a specific address of an organization in (or served by) the publishing industry. It is the method used by Pubnet and PubEasy systems and is required in all electronic data interchange communications using the Book Industry Systems Advisory Committee (BISAC) EDI formats.
