MUSIC This selection describes a collection to support the study and teaching of music -- the music of all peoples, places, and times, in all its historical, cultural, technical, and critical dimensions -- at an undergraduate level. Emphasis is on current and recent scholarship, with some classic works included for historical depth even when subsequent writings have superseded them. Textbooks and popular-level books are excluded except when indispensable as introductions to the topic. Notated scores and recorded performances (audio or video) are excluded except as an integral supplement to a book. For scores and recordings please refer to A Basic Music Library, 3rd ed.
