New Video and Music Content Now Available for Library's OPAC Through Syndetic Solutions
More Than 1 Million Data Elements for DVDs, CDs and Videos Now Easily Integrated into Libraries’ Online Catalogs

New Providence, N.J. - May 3, 2007 - Syndetic Solutions, a subsidiary of R.R. Bowker and the premier provider of enriched content for a library’s online catalog, today announced that it has introduced a wealth of video and music content that can be seamlessly integrated into a library’s Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

The new offering from Syndetics includes cover images for more than 742,000 music CDs and videos, summaries for more than 112,000 videos and 650,000 music CDs, and thousands of track listings for music recordings in various formats. There is no other resource in the industry that provides this depth and breadth of content.

“The video content we now offer includes everything from feature films and documentaries to TV shows and children’s films, and the music content we deliver covers styles as diverse as classical, country, jazz and rock,” said Melissa Kuzma, product manager for Syndetic Solutions at Bowker. “The inclusion of this new content helps the library’s OPAC be the one stop source for all information about what is held in a library, enabling patrons of all ages and backgrounds to quickly access rich video and music information.”

According to Kuzma, the video content includes title, jacket image, and a paragraph length summary which includes character/actor listings. The audio content available features cover images and track listings.

The new video and music content is the latest OPAC enrichment option offered by Syndetic Solutions and is compatible with virtually every Integrated Library System (ILS). Others include full-text reviews, cover images, tables of contents, find similar title functionality, annotations, series information, awards data, biography profiles, fiction profiles, excerpts, summaries, and author notes. Content offered by Syndetic Solutions is designed to integrate directly with a library’s OPAC system in order to provide the library patron a seamless experience in the online catalog.
