Bowker/Ulrich's Serials Librarianship Award Presented to Trisha L. Davis of the Ohio State University Libraries The Bowker/Ulrich's Serials Librarianship Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to serials librarianship. It is donated by R. R. Bowker and awarded annually by the American Library Association's Association for Library Collection and Technical Services Division (ALCTS), Serials Section. Ms. Davis was selected in recognition of her nationally acknowledged expertise in the area of electronic resource licensing and copyright; her commitment to sharing her knowledge with the library and publisher communities; her leadership in promoting electronic licensing standards and fostering dialogue between librarians, publishers, and subscription agents; and her pre-eminent role as an eloquent, forceful advocate for libraries and library users in the digital age. "Trisha Davis's work in educating librarians and publishers about the perils and opportunities of licensing electronic information is so widely appreciated in the library world because she has so graciously combined her thorough expertise with her boundless energy in sharing it," according to Carol L. MacAdam, committee chair of the Bowker/Ulrich's Serials Librarianship Award. "The programs she has helped develop, and the programs that she presents herself, have had a measurable and remarkable effect on policy formation and practice in libraries and with publishers and subscription agents. All sectors of the serials end of the information industry have benefitted from Trisha's efforts." Ms. Davis is an Associate Professor and Head of the Serials & Electronic Resources Department at the Ohio State University Libraries, where she has enjoyed a distinguished career since 1990. She is also an adjunct faculty member for the Kent State University School of Library and Information Science. Ms. Davis has authored a book on automated serial control systems as well as several articles on copyright and licensing issues, and has presented papers and workshops on electronic publishing and serials automation at a variety of professional conferences and meetings. Since 1997, Ms. Davis has served as Visiting Program Officer for Licensing of Electronic Products at the Association of Research Libraries, where she developed a two-day ARL workshop on licensing that has been presented across the country. Ms. Davis is actively involved with committee work for the American Library Association, and consults for businesses and libraries on projects related to the licensing of electronic products. R. R. Bowker will host a reception in Ms. Davis's honor at the American Library Association's meeting in Chicago, Illinois. The Award will be presented at the ALCTS Awards Presentation and General Membership Meeting on Monday, July 10th, at 9:30 A.M. About R.R. Bowker Founded in 1872, R.R.
