Bowker, the leading provider of bibliographic information in North America, today announced that Pamela Bluh, Associate Director for Technical Services and Administration at the Thurgood Marshall Law Library -- University of Maryland School of Law, was selected as the winner of the 2004 Bowker/Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award; marking the first time a law librarian has ever won this award. The Bowker/Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to serials librarianship. It is donated by R.R. Bowker and awarded annually by the American Library Association’s Association for Library Collection and Technical Services Division (ALCTS), Serials Section. "Pamela is one of those quietly effective people whose efforts, good-humor, kindness, energy, skill, and intelligence benefit us all," comments Beverley Geer, committee chair of the Bowker/Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award. "It is a great pleasure to honor her for what Knut Dorn at Otto Harrassowitz [bookseller and subscription agent] has so aptly described as her 'successful record as a librarian, fund raiser, author and communicator.'" Ms. Bluh was selected in recognition of her many contributions in the development of best practices in serials librarianship and her multi-faceted influence on the serials profession. Since 1980, Ms. Bluh has enjoyed a distinguished career at the Thurgood Marshall Law Library and previously has held serials positions at The Milton S. Eisenhower Library, Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Bluh has written extensively, particularly for ALCTS, and serves on the Editorial Board of Serials Review. As the list owner of the popular listserve LIBADMIN, an online list devoted to the topic of library administration, her work has helped significantly to disseminate discussions about the use and management of electronic resources. Ms. Bluh is also actively involved in important organizational work, including LAMA (Library Administration and Management Association), American Association of Law Libraries, Maryland Library Association, and the North American Serials Interest Group. R.R Bowker will host a reception honoring Ms. Bluh at the American Library Association’s meeting in Orlando, Florida. The Award will be presented at the ALCTS Awards Presentation and General Membership Meeting on Sunday, June 27th, at 5:00 P.M.
